Mr. Ferrell retired after twenty-five (25) years of dedicated services as a veteran State Police District Shift Commander “Lieutenant” before taking on the role of Chief Security Officer at Florida Atlantic University where he was responsible for directing the overall law enforcement and security operation for the State-run university’s five South Florida campuses with over 26,000 students.
While with the State police as a Commander, Mr. Ferrell was assigned to the Lieutenant Governor’s Dignitary Protection unit, the Dignitary Protection unit for Florida State Insurance Commissioner Bill Nelson (Current U.S. Senator) during the first six (6) years of Governor Jeb Bush two terms in office. He was also a six (6) year veteran Protective Advance Coordinator and the Former Commander of the United States President and Vice President Motorcade Support Unit for the State Police in South Florida.
In 1986 and during the Southern Governor’s Conference in Miami-Dade County, Mr. Ferrell was assigned to the Dignitary Protection (DP) unit of the North Carolina Highway Patrol. This assignment required 24-hour protection for Governor James Martin and his immediate family.
In 1999 and during the inaugural celebration for Governor Jeb Bush & Lt. Governor Frank Brogan, Mr. Ferrell was assigned to the Dignitary Protection (DP) unit to assist in security protection for Insurance Commissioner Bill Nelson (United States Senator) and his immediate family.
In 2000, Mr. Ferrell was assigned to the Dignitary Protection (DP) unit of the Pennsylvania State Police during a five (5) day South Florida business trip for Lieutenant Governor Mark Schweiker.
In 2005 as the senior State Police Commander Mr. Ferrell lead forty (40) Florida State Trooper’s to Washington D.C., and for five (5) day’s he directed the overall security operation for (FHP) while assisting Federal, State and Local Law Enforcement during President Bush and Vice President Cheney “Presidential Inaugural”.
